3 Reasons Orlando Pirates are "Losing It"

Orlando Pirates have played 13 games in all competitions this season with a record of 6 wins, 3 draws and 4 loses. As it stands they are sitting at a comfortable 3rd spot in the PSL with just 4 points between them and the on-form log leaders Kaiser Chiefs, not too bad right?

Well, having being knocked out 2 of the 3 seasonal cup competitions, both times, in a less than impressive fashion and  looking less than inspiring in the league things are looking less that peachy for the Parktown residents.

3 Top Reasons that Barcelona’s Season Collapsed

1.       The reliance on Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi, yes, is the best player in the world but, as we all know, football isn’t a one man sport Messi has scored over 60 goals so far this season for Barcelona and that’s almost 50% percent of all the goals they have scored this season, so that means if Messi has an off day Barcelona are going to struggle.

No doubt Barcelona are the best team in Europe but depending on one player more than others is going to catch up with you sooner or later but Pep Guardiola continues to tailors all the Barca play to suit Messi.
Okay okay so it has worked for a while that’s why Barcelona are the most feared team in world football but now opponents are beginning to find them out by defending the central area where Messi is and giving Barcelona space on the wings where they aren’t effective.

We love the Soweto Derby

Benni McCarthy scored a brace for Orlando Pirates against their bitter rivals Kaiser Chiefs to see them come away with a 3-2 victory in the biggest game in South African football.

This was a highly entertaining Soweto derby which was free flowing from the first whistle to the last.

VV made the strange decision of leaving Majoro on the bench and playing a 4-5-1 or as he would like to call it a 4-3-3 with Shabba playing in the midfield.

Powerlines fc 0-24 Sundowns. Is this really the gap between PSL and SAB League sides?

Mamelodi Sundowns ran riot on poor Northern Cape side Powerlines fc by putting an unprecedented 24 goals past them on Sunday afternoon.

Thunder are on FIRE!

The Oklahoma City Thunder made a statement Monday, taking a measure of revenge for last year's playoff defeat, and beating the Mavericks for the third time in four games this season 95-91.

Bafana shoot blanks.... again.

Our beloved Bafana Bafana and Senegal played out a dull draw at the Moses Mabida Stadium last night.

The clash started with a moment of silence observed for former South African international football player, Thabang Lebese who recently passed away

But I guess that’s the only thing worth mentioning about this match because it was an awful and un-entertaining tie.

The first was so boring that literally fell asleep with the only highlight being May Mahlangu bursting into the box and shooting straight at the Senegalese goalkeeper.

PSL Weekend Review 24-26 February 2012

Fight for the title

Moroka Swallows        2 – 2    Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns missed out on the chance to move six points clear at the top of the Absa Premiership when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Moroka Swallows at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Friday night. Read more on www.psl.co.za

Bidvest Wits    1 – 1    Kaizer Chiefs

Kaiser Chiefs waste a change to come with-in 1 point of the log leaders as they draw against a youthful and exiting Wits side on Saturday evening.

Amakhosi started off the brightest going in front after just two minutes through Parker but the celebrations were short lived because Wits equalised 4 minutes through what looked like a handball by Sifiso Vilakazi.

Those two strikes ended up being the only goals in the tie and Chiefs squandered a chance to go one point behind Mamelodi Sundowns.

Why do South African teams fail to impress in the CAF Champions League?

1.      South African players don’t have team spirit.

South African players seem as though they play for themselves and they really don’t give a “you know what” about the team.

Players don’t take on the responsibility of pulling their team out of the fire and giving them the oomph to be victorious at the end of the day. When things go wrong players don’t look for the ball anymore and they go into hiding because they are afraid of criticism.

LIN-SANITY!!

Heavyweight Boxing: Chisora v Klitschko

Vitali Klitschko and his brother have dominated the heavyweight boxing scene for a while and its actually getting a little boring watching them win (almost) every fight for the past 10 years. Dereck Chisora a 28-year-old British trash-talking heavyweight gets his chance to end the winning streak on Saturday in Germany.

Chisora is a massive under-dog in this fight and you’d only be one of two things to bet against Klitschko defeating him on Saturday which is 1.Crazy or 2. Brave.

Mid-Week European Football Review

UEFA Champions League last 16

Bayer Leverkusen       1-3       Barcelona

Barcelona have all but qualified for the quarter-finals after Sanchez and Messi put Barcelona 3-1 in front in the first leg ahead of the second at the Camp Nou two weeks time.

Leverkusen sat deep and invited Barcelona on to them hoping that they wouldn’t break them down but 4 minutes from half time Sanchez scored his first champions league goal.

In the second half Bayer came out a little bit more positive creating chances and even equalizing but immediately conceded again then late in the game Messi capped off the victory with a volley.

Leverkusen never believed that they could beat Barca they looked scared, shy and they gave them too much respect. Bleh!

AFCON: Semi-Finals Review

Zambia  1-0  Ghana

A penalty miss by Asamoah Gyan on the 7th and Emmanuel Mayuka’s goal on the 78th minute was enough to sink the Black Stars.

Zambia will meet the winners of last evening's other semi-final between Mali and Ivory Coast in Sunday's final in Libreville.

That match is set to provide an emotional stage for the Zambians as they return to the city associated with one of the country's most dreadful events.

Libreville was the city where a plane carrying the Zambian national side refuelled in before crashing into the Atlantic Ocean in 1993, killing all 30 people on board.

Pakistan 3-0 test whitewash against England... Shame…

Pakistan finished their first ever uncontaminated sweep against England in the Test series on Monday. The Pakistani spin attack was way too much to deal with for the English batsmen, Abdur Rehman and Saeed Ajmal (the Man of the Series) shared 43 wickets between them in a three match Test series and they asked all the questions that England couldn’t answer.

Weekend European Football Review 3-6 February 2012

English Premier League

Fight for the League

Manchester City          3-0       Fulham

After Man City scored that penalty within the first 15 minutes we all knew the outcome, Fulham, a poor away side, were never going to come back. BOOORING!

Chelsea            3-3       Manchester United

Two penalties by Wayne Rooney and a free header 6 minutes from time by Chicharito capped off an astonishing comeback by Manchester United.

United were controlling the game but after an own goal by Jonathan Evans they found themselves 1 goal down 10 minutes before the half time break.

In the second half after only 5 minutes ManU were 3-0 goals down, goals that came from an incredible volley by Mata and an own goal by Rio. By then the match looked over but knowing the Chelsea defence-which didn't even have Terry and Cole- it wouldn't of been impossible for them to concede 3 goals in the remaining 40 minutes.

Long story short Manchester United fought their way back and they gained a point and the Blues lost two. GREAT GAME!

Letter to Jose Mourinho: How to beat Barcelona

Dear Mr. Mourinho

I came to the realization that for the past year or so you have been experiencing problems with FC Barcelona and it seems no matter what you try they just keep on beating your ass. Well I’ve been a keen observer of Barcelona and in this time I have acknowledged that they do have weaknesses especially at the back. In this letter I’ll be giving you free advice on how to be victorious against Pep Guardiola and his men at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night.

Nadal at his best

The Australian Open: Why I don’t watch the first week

The Aussie Open is the first grand slam of the year and is the only one that takes place in the southern hemisphere. I love the Australian Open because during the course of the 2 weeks I get to see great quality tennis and Australian women, but I personally am not a fan of the first week of the grand slam tournament and here are a few reasons why:

Mans draw too predictable

In the first week we get to see non seeded players (a.k.a nobodies) play against the likes of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer , and they simply get their ass whooped! I don’t even bother to watch because I know what’s going to happen.

AFCON 2012: Who is my money on?

Okay so the AFCON is here and even though Bafana Bafana didn’t make it (even after celebrating like idiots thinking they did) I’m sure this tournament is going to be an enthralling one I’ve got my 3 favourites for the tournament and one of them is likely to win the whole thing.

5 reasons we want to see Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather this year

It’s been about two years since we started talking about the Pacquiao and Mayweather match up and some of us had even given up on seeing it happen but finally it seems like we might get the fight after all!

Apperently Mayweather called out Pacquiao on twitter, and it went a little something like this:

“Manny Pacquiao I’m calling you out let’s fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see”

“My Jail Sentence (he has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for beat up his ex girlfriend) was pushed back because the date was locked in. Step up Punk!”

Whoa!! I don’t know bout you but that sure sounded like a challenge to me!

The Proteas aren’t so bad after all

After they lost the second test math embarrassingly to a below average Sri Lankan side a lot of us were thinking that Graeme Smith and the Proteas are at it again, doing what they best at, disappointing the South African people. But they got their acts together and they won the third and final test in style and clinched the test series 2-1 at the same time.

After winning the toss the genius of the Sri Lankan captain TM Dilshan put the South Africans in to bat first on a very good batting pitch in Cape Town and he paid for it, the Proteas put on a mammoth score of 580 runs with only 4 wickets down.

MR ZonkE BonkE First XI 2011

 1.Iker Casillas (Goal Keeper)

Some call him the saint Iker some call him Spain’s  number one I just call him the best goal keeper in the world, yeah of course he had problems against Lio Messi and Barcelona but then again who doesn’t?

Iker usually has minimal in the course of 90 minutes because Real Madrid usually have the lion’s share of the possession when they obliterate opponents, but when he is called upon Casillas most of the time comes up with the answers.
