The Proteas aren’t so bad after all

After they lost the second test math embarrassingly to a below average Sri Lankan side a lot of us were thinking that Graeme Smith and the Proteas are at it again, doing what they best at, disappointing the South African people. But they got their acts together and they won the third and final test in style and clinched the test series 2-1 at the same time.

After winning the toss the genius of the Sri Lankan captain TM Dilshan put the South Africans in to bat first on a very good batting pitch in Cape Town and he paid for it, the Proteas put on a mammoth score of 580 runs with only 4 wickets down.

Graeme Smith went for only 16 runs the South African captain missing out on making runs once again his fellow opener, who was dropped for no particular reason by the selectors, made 109 runs while AB Villiers also joined the party and made 160 runs at a strike rate of 78.05

All-Rounder and South Africas best bats man Jacques Kallis had to wait till he was 36 years old and played 143 games for him to get his maiden double century but it took him just seven matches to reach his second one as he made an impressive 224 runs off 325 balls

Smithy declared and sent the Sri Lankan bats men in long story short they were all out for 239 runs and Smith sent them back when they couldn’t avoid the follow on, in their second innings the Asians made 342 runs all out. South Africa had to make only 2 runs to win the match which they did in the first over without Smith going out thank goodness.

What we learn from this test match

  • We like Petersen
  • The Sri Lankan bowling attack sucks
  • We like Philander
  • Cape Town people drink a little too much
  • We love Kallis
