AFCON: Semi-Finals Review

Zambia  1-0  Ghana

A penalty miss by Asamoah Gyan on the 7th and Emmanuel Mayuka’s goal on the 78th minute was enough to sink the Black Stars.

Zambia will meet the winners of last evening's other semi-final between Mali and Ivory Coast in Sunday's final in Libreville.

That match is set to provide an emotional stage for the Zambians as they return to the city associated with one of the country's most dreadful events.

Libreville was the city where a plane carrying the Zambian national side refuelled in before crashing into the Atlantic Ocean in 1993, killing all 30 people on board.

Cote D'ivoire 1-0 Mali

Cote d'ivoire secure their place into the African Nations Cup final against Zambia after Gervinho's solo goal saw them past Mali in Libreville.

Ivory Coast, the most-loved ofv the tournament, e ased past Mali who didn’t do much in an attacking sense during the course of the match. In the first half Ivory Coast were dominating the match and in the first 15 minutes Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure both hit the post. Then just before the half time break in the 44th minute Gervinho capitalised on a defensive mistake when he hit Ousmane Berthe with a 'spy-two' close to the half way line and raced into the Mali penalty area and he finished the run outstandingly.

At the end of the day we had our two finalists namely Zambia who were somewhat lucky -in my opinion-to get that far and Cote d'ivoire who were the favourites from the first day.

So who do I think will win? Well that is an easy one. A big pat on the back to Chipolopolo for getting this far but they are not going to overcome the Ivoreans even if they have an off day.
