Some call him the saint Iker some call him Spain’s number one I just call him the best goal keeper in the world, yeah of course he had problems against Lio Messi and Barcelona but then again who doesn’t?
Iker usually has minimal in the course of 90 minutes because Real Madrid usually have the lion’s share of the possession when they obliterate opponents, but when he is called upon Casillas most of the time comes up with the answers.
2. Dani Alves (Right-Back)
Part right wing back, part right wing, whatever Dani Alves is, he is pretty good at! it after all he is brazillian right??
Alves was nothing less than magnificent this past season and very good in this season too, okay okay some people say he better going forward than he is going back and that he neglects his defensive duties but no questioning the guys quality, he is quick, he crosses better than some wingers, skillful, strong and he not bad over a free kick too.
3. Marcelo (Left Back)
23 years old, full of energy, full of skill and full of hair Marcelo is my best left fullback of 2011.
Once Marcelo was considered a left winger being forced to play the full back position but in 2011 the Brazilian, under the so called ‘Special One’ Jose Mourinho, drastically improved his defensive game while still being an offensive force at the same time. Being excellent at operating down the left touchline and linking up with his offensive players like Ronaldo and Higuain and having the competence to go back and do what he is paid to do, DEFENDING, which a year ago would of seemed impossible for him to do.
4. Sergio Ramos (Centre Back)
Being played at right back most his Real Madrid career I think we like Ramos better at centre back.
Aggressive in the tackle, fit, with goalscoaring instinct and also not being afraid to put his body on the line if he needs to Sergio Ramos will never be blamed for not giving his all for his team whether it was Spain or Los Blancos. Even though he was responsible for dropping Copa Del Rey under the double-decker bus 2011 was a good year for 25 year old Spain International.
5. Gerard Pique (Centre Back)
A central defender who can read the game like a midfielder and being able to pick up the ball from defense at take it forward into a more offensive position and with another year gone Gerard Pique is still the mainstay in the Barcelona defense
A dominant while elegant central defender, 2011 was another successful year for him and Barcelona and it was another year for Jose Mourinho and Co. to continue scratching their heads trying to figure out how are they going to knock them of their high horse. Nicknamed “Piquenbauer” by his beloved Barcelona fans when attracting flattering comparisons to legendary German sweeper Franz Backenbauer, I am not going to lie I’m too young to even know who he is and I'm to lazy to research on who or what he did but who ever he is he must have been pretty good!
6. Yaya Toure (Central Defensive Midfielder)
Okay what do you get when u mix a Brazilians skill, and Africans power, a Germans clinical finishing ability, a Spaniards accurate passing an Italians reading of the game??
YAYA TOURE!
One of my favourite players Yaya Toure has everything a midfielder needs in both offense of defense, he is a midfield general he can play long balls, 1-2’s or just pass to the closest guy to him. In the 2010/2011 Mancini used him more as an attacking midfielder sitting in ‘the whole’ behind Carlos Tevez and he excelled leading Man City to their first Champions League appearance, but in the 2011/2012 season Mancini has chose to employ him deeper in the midfield and Yaya is still effective.
7. Xavi (Central Midfielder)
8. Andres Iniesta (Central Midfielder)
Lionel Messi once entered the bedroom of a girl with whom he hoped to score. The girl tells him to get comfortable and she leaves the room to go freshen up. To her amazement, when she returns, she finds him lying in bed completely nude with two naked men and shouts; “WHAT’S GOING ON??” …smilling Messi calmly replies: “I’m sorry dear, but I can’t perform without Xavi and Iniesta!!!” LOL!!!
I stole that joke by the way luckily that person didn’t copyright it!
Nowadays you can’t mention the name of Xavi without mentioning Iniesta.
Xavi a technician of the modern game, Xavi is in opinion the best central midfielder in the world or at the best I’ve ever seen in my short life. Born a Catalan he is the incarnation (big word alert!) of the Barcelona philosophy of passing your opponent to death then score 5 or 6 goals after that while making it all seem so easy. Difficult to disposes.. okay sometimes impossible to disposes, vision of a hawk, dictator of play, accurate passer.. okay I think you get the picture.
Iniesta one of Barcelona best and most consistent players of the 2010/2011 and the start of the 2011/2012 season. The 27 year old caused problems for many defenses during the course of the year with his ball control, dribbling ability and vision, even though he is only at 1.7m and 57kg what he lacks in height and strength he makes up for in brains and wiliness.
9. Cristiano Ronaldo (Striker)
A year where we saw Ronlado break records, score goals, pass a little more than he usually does or than he’d like to, score more goals, and come second to some guy named Messi in the polls (again!)
May 15 2011 Ronlado become the highest goalscorer in a season in the history of real Madrid with 51 goals he finished the season with 53 goals!
Call him arrogant, call him a choker, call him whatever you like but you got to acknowledge that a guy is a goal scoring machine maybe he wont the best player in the world while Messi is still alive but he is a close second the guy can score with his head, his knee, his in step is out step, his chest.. oh wait that was Mario Balotelli… he can score from 10 yards, from 30 yards usually with a free kick, even from half a yard usually when he is stealing someone else’s goal.
10. Lionel Messi (Striker)
The man so short that apparently his best friend is and ant (corny joke alert!) but he is so good he makes Cristiano Ronaldo look bad.
Yes Lio Messi is the player everyone is talking about in world football right now because he is undoubtedly the best, slicing through packed defenses like a hot knife through Rama, scoring goals for fun, making world class goalkeepers look silly and giving people like Pepe and Sergio Ramos nightmares. Even though he didn’t perform so well at the Copa America with national team in his home country of Argentina last year it would be silly of me or of anyone not to put him in their First IX of 2011.
11. Robin Van Persie (Striker)
For once Robin Van Persie played more than 3 games in a year and he showed world audiences that he is pretty handy in front of goal when he is fit.
Robin Van Persie was the most prolific striker in Europe behind Ronaldo this past year, his goal per game in the whole of 2011 was better than a goal a game at 1.04 (28 goals in 27 appearances). Since the departure of home sick Fabregas and Europa league loving Nasri RVP has to taken over the mantel as captain and as best player in the club. The Dutchman avoided injury and is the reason that Arsenal are at the position they are right now in the league without him it would been a great deal worse.
Substitutes.
12. Manuel Neuer (Goal Keeper)
13. Thiago Silva (Center Back)
14. David Silva (Attacking Central Midfielder)
15. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Striker)
Breakout Player of the Year: Daniel Sturridge (Striker)
My Favourite Player of the Year: Scott Parker (Central Midfielder)
Moemish of the Year: Fernando 'el nino' Torres (Striker)
